SOURCING
Shade-Grown in Uji
Our matcha begins in the shaded tea fields of Uji, Kyoto — where reduced sunlight concentrates chlorophyll and L-theanine for vivid colour and smooth umami. Each harvest is hand-picked, carefully steamed, and slowly stone-ground on traditional granite mills.

FAQ
Common Questions
What is ceremonial-grade matcha?
Ceremonial-grade matcha is the highest quality of matcha available. It is made exclusively from the first harvest of shade-grown tencha leaves, which are stone-ground into an ultra-fine powder. The result is a vibrant green colour, a smooth and creamy texture, and a naturally sweet umami flavour — designed to be enjoyed pure with just hot water, no milk or sweeteners needed.
How is your matcha sourced?
We partner directly with multi-generational tea farming families in Uji, Kyoto — Japan's most renowned matcha-growing region. Our tencha leaves are shade-covered for 20+ days before harvest to boost chlorophyll and L-theanine levels. After harvesting, the leaves are steamed, dried, and stone-ground on traditional granite mills in small batches.
How should I prepare matcha?
For traditional ceremonial matcha: sift 1–2g (about half a teaspoon) of matcha powder into a chawan (bowl). Add 60–70ml of water heated to 80°C (not boiling). Whisk vigorously with a bamboo chasen in a W or M motion until a fine, even froth forms on the surface. Enjoy immediately. For a matcha latte, whisk the matcha with a small amount of hot water first, then add steamed milk of your choice.
What does matcha taste like?
High-quality ceremonial matcha has a rich, smooth umami flavour with a naturally sweet finish and zero bitterness. You may notice vegetal notes similar to fresh spinach or edamame, along with a creamy body. Lower-grade matcha can taste bitter and astringent — which is why sourcing and quality matter. Our matcha is consistently smooth, vibrant, and easy to drink pure.
